Drawing inspiration from religious iconography and the detailed natural works of John James Audubon, Ascension depicts various bird species as icons of spirituality and endurance in nature. Each species has unique behavioral and physical characteristics that shown with organic or manmade objects, aid in the depiction of enlightenment and the struggle to obtain inner peace in the wild. Strictly being composed of black ink, the inherent limitation of working with a single medium creates a meditative artistic process, similar to the methodical creation of mandalas by Buddhist monks.
